It can create the illusion of stubble on shaved heads, like a buzz cut, and make thinning hair appear fuller. You can think of SMP as a hair tattoo similar to microblading, though microblading uses a manual blade and SMP requires an electric tattoo device due to the

MY APPOINTMENT
WHAT TO EXPECT
Whether you’ve already booked an appointment or still waiting to decide, there’s the unavoidable sense of nervousness that comes with doing something for the first time. Knowing what’s going to happen ahead of time is a surefire way to eliminate some of those feelings.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) clinics vary in their procedure, but this post should paint a general picture of what you will experience in the first session with HiBROW
.
The entire Scalp Micropigmentation procedure takes about two to three sessions, with the first session dedicated to laying out the framework for the remaining session(s). In other words, you won’t be walking out with the final look after your first visit.
A common misconception about SMP is that it’s basically hair tattooing. Although both procedures involve adding permanent pigmentation underneath the skin, they are completely different in regards to purpose and procedure. Due to this misconception, clients worry most about the level of pain, since “tattooing” is often synonymous with “pain.”
Luckily, this procedure doesn’t hurt nearly as much as you’d think. After the first ten minutes or so, the initial discomfort should subside. Sensitivity does differ from person to person, but at worst, your scalp may experience redness for the first day. Refrain from sweating and long exposure to sunlight to minimize the risk of any complication.
Keep in mind that your first visit may last approximately three to four hours. So dress in something you’d be comfortable in for those hours. You’re also allowed (and recommended) to take breaks, so don’t hesitate to ask if you need to stretch your legs or use the restroom.
The first session is an exciting experience, as it’s a huge step in combating the unwanted appearance resulting from hair loss. However, it doesn’t mask the nervousness that surrounds the first visit. At HiBROW, we want to make your experience is worry-free. We’ll make sure you’re walking out with a new and confident sense of self. If you’ve already had your first session and have questions, or if you’re still on the fence and want more contact us.
HEALING PROCESS
WHAT TO EXPECT
The results and longevity of your treatment will depend greatly on how you take care of your scalp during the healing process and beyond. Each client’s skin will respond differently to the treatments, both in the length of time it takes to heal, and the number of sessions needed for your desired results. This information acts as a guideline only.
What to Expect:
-
The complete healing process takes about 6-8 weeks.
-
Immediately following the procedure, you may experience minimal discomfort on the treated area. Many clients describe a similar sensation as a sunburn, with redness and swelling. Symptoms will subside within 24-48 hours.
-
During the first week, the tattooed area will initially appear to be darker and bolder in color and more sharply defined than the final result.
-
Minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin is normal during the first few weeks of the healing period. To avoid loss of pigmentation, do not itch or remove scabs. They will naturally fall off on their own.
-
Throughout the healing process, your tattoo will lighten in color, as your skin is exfoliating and regenerating. Be patient and wait at least 6 weeks to see the true color, as it often re-strengthens at the end.
-
Adjustments and touch-ups can be made only after the 6-8 week healing period is complete.
Care For Your New Scalp Tattoo
During the healing process, please avoid the following:
● Application of water, shampoo, lotions, creams or other scalp products for 7 days. We will provide you with a disposable shower cap to ensure your head does not get wet when you shower.
● Scratching or removal of scabs, dry skin/flakiness.
● Activities that will cause sweating for 7 days.
● Helmets, hats or hair prostheses for prolonged periods.
● Swimming pools, hot tubs or other bodies of water for 14 days.
● Scalp shaving for 10 days, and avoiding going over any remaining scabs during the rest of the healing weeks
After You’ve Healed:
● Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, always apply sunscreen (30 SPF or greater) on the treated area and wear a hat for further protection.
● Always rinse and dry the scalp thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.
● For men who still have some growing hair follicles, we recommend shaving your head every 2-3 days to maintain an even “freshly shaved” look.
● While the treatment is permanent, the pigmentation will slowly fade over time. Periodic touch ups may be required.
**Following these guidelines is extremely important for the healed results of your SMP. Please DO NOT use other products or follow other artists’ aftercare instructions. Through extensive research and tests, these instructions will give you the best results!**

ASKED QUESTIONS
If the answer to your question is not listed below, please email us at info@HiBROWofficial.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can!
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that uses detailed micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short hair stubble. If you are starting to thin, recede, or if you are completely bald, we can give you the look of a short buzz cut. SMP is also ideal for women or men with thinning hair who want a look of fuller hair, or anyone who's lost his or her edges over time. It can restore the hairline.
How much does Scalp Micropigmentation cost?
Our pricing is based on the level of hair loss, which is different for each client. Typically, the price ranges between $1,500 - $4,000. We recommend setting up a low-cost consultation so we can evaluate your case and provide a personalized price quote based on your hair loss needs.
Is scalp micropigmentation detectable?
Scalp micropigmentation has become such an effective hair loss solution because of its consistently natural and undetectable results. HiBROW prides itself on the ability to seamlessly replicate each individual hair follicle to create a perfect match for each client.
How many treatments should I expect?
Scalp micropigmentation should never be considered a one treatment process. Most clients can expect between 2-4 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart.
How long does scalp micropigmentation take?
The Scalp Micropigmentation treatment typically takes 2-4 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss. Most clients can expect between 2-4 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart.
How long do the results last?
After completion of your treatment (2-4 sessions) a client should expect the strength of the color to last for many years. Over a longer term, a client will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (not discolor) of the treatment. When this occurs they can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of their style.
Do I need to take time off work?
Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.
Is Scalp Micropigmentation permanent?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics or permanent makeup. Often referred to as a cosmetic hair or scalp tattoo, this treatment typically lasts 4-6 years. After that time, a client may experience some slight fading, to which they can come back in for a quick touch up. This cosmetic solution will not wash off but can be tweaked as years go on. We always recommend meeting with a practitioner to discuss your treatment options.
How do I choose a hairline?
If you are unsure of what style or type of hairline will work for you, your treatment specialist will be there to help. With artistic experience on how to fit a hairline to head shape and age, your specialist can help recommend what’s best. Over the course of your sessions you can also tweak and adjust the hairline for a perfect result.
Will it change color like tattoos?
No. Scalp micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattoo ink, the pigment is designed to fall within the same color spectrum of short cut hair. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only lighten, not discolor over an extended time.
Scalp micropigmentation also utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp.
If I have hair left, can I leave it long?
Depending upon the pattern and extent of the thinning hair, some clients are able to maintain a longer length of hair. Scalp pigmentation can help thicken areas so that less of the scalp is seen showing through. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss or just not a lot of hair density left, the client is recommended to crop it shorter.
Will Scalp Micropigmentation work with gray hair?
Yes, those with gray hair can still benefit from the scalp micropigmentation procedure. First, most clients are recommended to cut their hair to a short buzzed length. When this is done, gray hair does not appear as gray because the hair root itself is darker. Hair only shows gray as it gets longer. Second, we use a gray-scale pigment that can be adjusted in shade to blend with lighter hair tones. We simply create a lighter dilution for blending into the existing gray hairs.
Can Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage my transplant scar?
Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the color around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars can see massive improvement in concealment.
If I am lighter or darker skin tone will this treatment still look good?
Yes! We are able to match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones. Whether you are Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or Pacific Islander and much more...scalp micropigmentation can work for you.
How long until I can sweat after the scalp micropigmentation treatment?
We recommend no heavy sweating or intense exercise for 4-5 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment.
Does the scalp micropigmentation procedure hurt?
For most clients, the pain minimal and it's consistently less painful than traditional tattoos. After your session, you won't experience any further discomfort.
Is Scalp Micropigmentation for long hair?
Scalp Micropigmentation is used to add density to thinning areas. We are able to add thickness to areas common areas like the crown, hair parting and more. For people that are using scalp micropigmentation to rebuild their hairline, we recommend keeping your hair short for a more balanced look.
Where is HiBROW located?
We have clinics in New York City and Michigan.
What equipment is used for a Scalp Micropigmentation procedure?
The equipment used for a scalp treatment is considered micropigmentation or “permanent cosmetic” equipment. There are many different brands and designs and equipment includes a digital power source, a hand-piece, and a disposable micro needles for the insertion of pigment. Most technicians of Scalp Micropigmentation use different equipment than standard tattoo artists to ensure the deposits are delicately placed at the appropriate depth in the skin.
Can I still use Propecia and/or Rogaine after my treatment?
Clients can continue using Propecia during and after their scalp pigmentation procedure. Rogaine (topical minoxidil) should be suspended during the course of treatment and for 30 days post your final session. This is to ensure the proper healing and settling of pigment without interference of the chemicals found in Rogaine foam.
I see many Scalp Micropigmentation providers on the internet, how do I choose the right one?
The growth of scalp micropigmentation (hairline tattoos, scalp tattoos) has been tremendous over the last few years. This means a lot more clinics, but also means prospective patients need to do their research! Look for clinics and technicians that have a vast and dynamic portfolio of results, and help answer any questions you have. It is always a good idea to schedule an in-person consultation if you are unsure, in order to eliminate those providers you just don’t feel comfortable with.
Can you help with hair transplant FUE/FUT scaring?
Yes! We use our specialized scalp micropigmentation technique to deposit color matched pigment into the scar to reduce visibility.
Do you charge for a consultation?
Yes, we offer low-cost $25 consultations for anyone looking to learn about how scalp micropigmentation can help their hair loss.
What is the difference between scalp micropigmentation, hair tattoo, micropigmentation and scalp tattoo?
Scalp Micropigmentation is not just a traditional tattoo. Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattooing or permanent makeup, the treatment replicates the look of short cut hair by using pointillism techniques. Scalp Micropigmentation utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp.
Do you have Scalp Micropigmentation Before and After Pictures?
Yes, please check out our transformations page which shows our client's before and after images.

What is the difference between Scalp Micropigmentation vs. Tattoos?
There are three main differences between Scalp Micropigmentation vs. Tattooing:
1. We are depositing pigment into the skin at a shallower depth than tattoos, only about 2mm into the dermis
2. We are strictly making small micro dots through pointillism method, not shading or drawing lines
3. We use only a black pigment which is much more diluted than typical tattoo inks. For this reason, it won't break down to different colors or look too saturated once it heals
Will scalp micropigmentation grow my hair back?
No, the scalp micropigmentation treatment will not grow your hair back. However, the SMP treatment will give you the look of short hair or a tight buzz-cut. We recommend keeping your hair at a shorter length to create the most natural outcome.
